HONDA MOTORCYCLE AND SCOOTER INDIA LIMITED(HSMI) has stunned the motorcycle market with the launch of its all new motorcycle the famous CBR with a new less capacity 250cc engine at price of 1.5 lakh rupees Ex-Showroom.
The CBR looks familiar with its elder sibling the VFR1200F, the front stance is easily one of the best in the market with a large single headlamp with integrated twin pilot lamps looks the best. The fairing starting from the top of the headlamp to instrument panel looks bold, especially with integrated mirrors looks handsome, the fairing has been thoughtfully designed to protect the rider from wind at hind speed, the fairing also reduces the aerodynamic drag to increase the efficiency of the motorcycle.
The rear comprises of a single tail lamp and seperate signal lamps, and had a sporty two piece grab rail which enhances the looks of the motorcycle from the rear. The tail lamp has a sharp edgy design to give it a sleek appeal. The tank is well sculpted and it has perfectly designed knee grooves in it to support the knees. The seat is perfectly padded and the pillion rider seating position is comfortable.
The blue back lit analogue tachometer is the best part of the instrument console, along with a large digital speedometer, a trip counter, a digital clock, fuel gauge & temperature gauge. The attention to detail is very good, with a two piece steering which looks and feels sporty to hold. The clip on handle bars looks good. The switch gear looks and feels top notch for use.
The engine is newly developed 250cc, which is truly a refined and silky a smooth power plant, which signifies itself when the engine is started. The sources claimed that the engine is developed from scratch. It is a liquid cooled, 4 valve, electronic fuel injection engine, with a special molybdenum coated piston to reduce friction, special balancer which cuts vibrations, and lots of cutting edge technology which improves the performance of the engine. The max power is 25.8 Bhp and max torque 2.3 kgm, is enough to beat the competitors. Top speed will be around 160 km/hr,it is good for cruising effortlessly at 100 km/hr.0-100 will be in around 6 seconds.
A six speed manual gearbox with 5-up and 1-down pattern is standard. The safety on the motorcycle is also considered to be of prime importance with 296mm front disc brake and a 220mm rear disc brake comes as standard. The good news is, that it will be a first budget motorcycle to be equipped with ABS . The ABS pressure control valve will be controlled by the rear brake lever, and it will control the braking pressure of the front as well as the rear wheel brake. The front brake lever will be controlling the front brake independently and will be not configure the ABS system.
Verdict:- Honda deserves to be credited for the launch of the bike, especially with the price with price of 1.5 lakh for the basic and 1.8 lakh for the ABS version. Yamaha with its R15 feels underpowered with just 17Bhp on the tap and its high price. On the other end Kawasaki Ninja is a genuine sports bike and is derived from its bigger siblings and is equally powered to the CBR but it has a massive price tag of 3.5lakh rupees.CBR is not a true sports bike, and is designed to be used for everyday use.But with 25.8 Bhp and a tempting price tag, cutting edge technology and sporty look you cannot find a bike better than HONDA CBR250R.
